Presenter: Chris Prengels, Ariel Cuschnir, Jay Wagner

Facilitator: Debra Zanewich

Recorded: 9 December 2024

This webinar explored the socio-environmental and techno-economic challenges of green hydrogen, a promising clean energy solution to combat climate change. Participants learned about the unique impacts of green hydrogen projects, including those related to production, storage, transport, and export, as well as the extensive resource demands for electricity, water, and land.

The session covered health, safety, and environmental issues such as desalination, wastewater management, hydrogen pipelines, and infrastructure development. Case studies from Argentina, the Middle East and North Africa, Canada, and the South Atlantic highlighted the environmental and social considerations for siting and assessing green hydrogen projects.

The webinar also featured insights from a developer’s perspective, addressing the commercial and technical challenges of green hydrogen. It served as an introduction for practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in understanding and evaluating the impacts of this emerging energy source.
